Future
Season 2008/09 has set new goals for all Active members at Sunshine Beach. With our main aim remaining the same as it has for the past 25 years of "zero preventable deaths between the flags at Sunshine Beach". However, new initiatives, changing faces of members as well as committee has breathed a new lease of life into all Club activities. When you read the next paragraph, which I have left in from past President, Alan Sinclair's, report some 5 years ago, it has indeed become true...
"It's ironic that some of the surf life savers of those early years got married and produced offspring that eventually were the first Nippers in 1993/94: Drysdales, Fahey-Whites, Frosts, Hardings, Puckeridges, Roaches, Sinclairs, Wrens, to name a few; then the next generation: Brabys, Greens, Harrolds, Mackays, Redwoods and so on. We now have a full circle, with some of these original Nippers now in the Senior ranks."
Extending on Alan's full circle approach, in 2006 we now have early Cadet members of the 1980s starting their children in the Nipper program, while still gaining new families and Active Members who will continue this cycle with their children well into the future, the likes of the Nolans, Knoxs, Moss, Browns and Bruces to name a few.
The beach at Sunshine hasn't changed - it's still one of the most dangerous stretches of water on the Sunshine Coast but our training and standards of life saving procedures has certainly given us many very experienced life savers, young and old. Indeed our youth are trailblazing with their prowess in the surf and the essential life saving skills they have acquired and exhibit with enthusiasm beyond their years.
Members are encouraged to see all the positive events and innovations going on around the lifesaving core area. Management has succeeded in developing and securing a range of new equipment for lifesaving through grants and good planning that sees our resources close to the best they have been for a long time. Our tight fiscal control has allowed substantial upgrading of the licensed Supporters Club area without any detriment to our primary goals of lifesaving and member needs.
It is with great enjoyment I look forward to the coming seasons as we continue to better develop our club for the benefit of the whole community. I have left the next few paragraphs from years gone by as it is important to realise the roles each of us will play within this terrific club – Sunshine Beach.
MISSION STATEMENT
Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club will provide and promote a surf life saving service in a fun and safe environment which will enhance the recreation lifestyles of our community and its members.
So it is good to see that we are still focused as members, with the same core values - safety, fun, satisfaction and pride, education, friendship, sense of belonging, recreation, role models - all for the betterment of ourselves, our organisation, and our community.
So here's to the future years of and what they hold for Sunshine Beach Surf Lilfe Saving Club.
