Surf Lifesavers are men and women who volunteer their time to provide aquatic supervision all over Australia's coastal environment. Currently Surf Life Saving Queensland has over 7500 active lifesavers who patrol the beach every weekend through affiliated community based volunteer clubs.

Red and Yellow Caps
All volunteer surf lifesavers wear the internationally recognised red and yellow patrol uniform (yellow long-sleeved shirt, red shorts and red swimming costume) and are distinct by wearing the red and yellow quartered cap.
People get into difficulty in the water usually through a sequence of several factors, grouped together these are known as the drowning chain.
Being beach smart is about understanding the potential hazards, learning how to avoid these dangers and knowing how to help someone if they get in trouble.
Surf Lifesavers want everyone who visits the beach or participates in any aquatic recreation to have a safe and enjoyable day.
