Surf sports competition offers every member the chance to test their skills and fitness against the very best lifesavers from around the country at various local, state and interstate carnivals.

Nippers can choose to have a go in surf sports carnivals that are non competitive from age 8 -10, and then competitive from 11-14. This is apart from normal club Sundays where Surf skills and education are taught in a fun, friendly environment.

To compete at Surf Sports carnivals whether on board, ski, swim, Ironperson or beach events or at Surf Rescue or Pool rescue carnivals every athlete must have a minimum qualification of either a Surf Rescue Certificate (Juniors U/14s) or a Bronze Medallion and must meet the patrol hour requirements and patrol team obligations according to their membership category and club handbook to be eligible.

Sunshine Beach competes in all ages from Nippers, through Opens to Masters. Our Juniors are a force to be reckoned with displaying outstanding team and individual results over the years, this is now flowing into our Youth and Open section with our current Australian Champion U/17 Patrol Team (Dom, Josh, Keira, Taylor) and individual Australian U/17 Champion Lifesaver Taylor Redwood in this section.

Our Masters have been invigorated and are growing in numbers and glory as the team motto "Go hard or Go home" is realised by more and more willing to enjoy the events, training and comradeship. Former Australian Ironman Champion Steve Pullen is part of this growing contingent. For a small club there are continued efforts to provide the best possible training and development  possible to all levels of athlete ability and commitment.

To this end the Club offers professional coaching to all levels of skill and membership and our Junior Development program is helping our next generation of athletes develop to their full potential.
