Surf Lifesaving

Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club began patrols in the season of 1980/1981, so we are one of the youngest Surf Lifesaving clubs. To date Sunshine Beach has over 300 members consisting of 150 Active Members, 185 Nippers, 50 Cadets and Youths.

Sunshine Beach SLSC is a community organisation run by volunteers dedicated to protecting members of the public who surf and swim at Sunshine Beach, one of the best open beach surfing breaks in Queensland.  Patrols can be seen every weekend between September school holidays through to the May Day weekend. Our hours are from 7am to 5 pm with extended hours through the busy Xmas period to 6pm. Council Lifegaurds patrol the beach at all other times.

The nature of Surf lifesaving encourages a certain level of fitness and well being, with all active members needing to complete a yearly fitness swim, run test as well as practical scenarios.

A variety of courses are run over the year from the basic Surf Rescue Certificate and Bronze medallion to First Aid, Advanced Resuscitation, IRB driver and crew certificates and many more. There are definite career pathways available through Surf lifesaving. Information is available on all courses from the website or obtained from our Education and Training Officer Glynn Jones or by phoning Club Administration.

For anybody interested in Surf Sports from age 7 to 70, Sunshine Beach SLSC has training programs for all levels of competitors. Although small in size Sunshine certainly mix’s in top company with many current Branch, State and Australian Champions amongst our ranks.
